Meet Adrienne von Speyr — a Swiss convert, mystic, wife, physician, and author of over sixty books on spirituality and theology.
Adrienne von Speyr was a 20th-century mystic who lived between 1902 and 1967. Trained as a physician, she met Father Hans Urs von Balthasar in 1940 — an encounter that led her to embrace Catholicism, having come from a Swiss Protestant background. Her mystical visions have been published in more than fifty volumes.
And about the author’s “contribution” to the field of mysticism, Hans Urs von Balthasar himself wrote:
“Since the experiences and insights granted to her are entirely of a charismatic nature, these realms can in no way be found or deduced logically. They were simply given to her as they are. In fact, when it came to constructing any sort of edifice concerning the things of God, nothing repulsed Adrienne more than the search for a final point.”
