It is not a “concept”—the concept of glory—that is to be “analyzed” here, but rather a symbol of fullness that seeks to be integrated into this fullness. Our interest is synthetic; precisely for this reason, the final New Testament theology, the Johannine one, will always be our vanishing point and destination, even though all New Testament theologies remain in a constant movement of advancement (in the Church’s ever-open meditation) and of ascent (toward God). What is important to us is the future and the mouth of the river, not the categories that had to be integrated at the stage when they were still source, material, and condition. But only the one thing that seeks to express itself through all of these: it is Him we pursue, without imagining that we have already attained Him (Philippians 3:12 ff.).
