My text about Iuliu Hossu is literary, fictional, even though I used documentary sources (memoirs, chronicles, archive photographs, etc.). It is not a hagiographic or monographic text in the theological sense, but a literary story about a key figure in 20th-century Romanian history and a personality who had a major impact on my family. In 1926, my paternal grandfather, Vasile Cesereanu, was ordained a priest by Iuliu Hossu, the Greek Catholic bishop of Gherla. After the Greek Catholic Church was abolished by the communist authorities in 1948, Vasile Cesereanu suffered various convictions and was imprisoned for campaigning for the restoration of the rights of the church to which he belonged. Vasile Cesereanu's missionary and ethical role model was Bishop Iuliu Hossu, who was a confessional model, but also a supra-confessional one (human, ethical, historical). Having inherited my grandfather's love for Iuliu Hossu, his teacher, it is not difficult to guess that he also became a spiritual mentor for me.
